The program for the Virtural 5k Walk /Run was on Saturaday May 8, 2021 from 9:00am-5:00pm. This was to support "Mothers Stepping out against Domestic Violence.
Past Events

Our first Vitural 2020 Annual Retreat for Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland. This will be on Saturday August 22 from 9:30am-12:00pm. Our theme this year is "A Time to Reconnect" . To RSVP by August 14 to Terri Musgrove at email: ladytee728@gmail.com. We will share our insights for the upcomming Advocacy and Service for the fall. In these upresidented times we are going to host this Virtural Event via ZOOM. A ZOOM link will be sent to all members of Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland who have RSVP.

November Monthy Meeting- Zonta International Centennial

November Monthly meeting for Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland which we celebrated the 50th Centennial for this month. This took place at the Country Club of Woodmore in Upper Marlboro, MD where most of our meetings have been held. We had representatives from several Districts attend including Ms. Joanne Gallos , Representative of District 3. In our meeting we had our own Centennial cake to celebrate Zonta International 100 anniversary. This year for the Centennial Zonta International has announced recipients of grants at an amount of $269,271 to several non-for-profit organizations based in 18 countries, partnering with the club in improving the lives of young women. Next year Zonta International will be celebrating their 100 anniversary on July 4-8 , 2020 in Chicago. This includes programs , events and seminars dedicated to women's equality. This will be found on Zonta.org or http://convention.zonta.org/.








ZONTA Club of Mid-Maryland 4K Run

ZONTA Club of Mid-Maryland had their 1st Annual 5K Walk/Run for “Stepping Out Against Domestic Violence and Abuse”. This event happened on Saturday September 28, 2019 at National Harbor. We had great participation from our members who where able to take part in the run or walk . As summer was approaching at close , we where able to make an impact in our cause against domestic violence . These pictures show our excitement and purpose for this 5k run.













ZONTA Day in Annapolis - February 28, 2019
This year we invited other clubs to participate; 4 out of 5 clubs participated with Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland to include Annapolis, Charles County, Howard County and Frederick with 12 plus attendees. We had an introductory conference call January 31st and the partnering clubs participated by bringing items for the continental breakfast and participating in the program (see attached). The District 3 Governor and Area 3 Director, Joanne Gallos and Pat Rosensteele attended, respectively.
Four members represented ZONTA on the floor of the Senate where we received a Citation commemorating our work for women and girls; as well as, congratulations to Zonta International for 100 years of service and advocacy. Senator Joanne Benson was a very gracious sponsor and promised to sponsor ZONTA Day in Annapolis for years to come. We were greeted by Senator Ron Young, Delegate Karen Lewis (SB738 /HB634), Delegate Susie Proctor, staff from various legislators offices to include Caroline Hecker – Legislative Aide of Senator Kathleen Dumais’ office (SB 209/HB 122), Delegate Erik Barron and Delegate Ron Watson. We participated in tours of the Government House (the Governor’s Mansion) and the State House. The day concluded with lunch, toasts, and conversations at Harry Browne’s. ZONTA Day in Annapolis was once again a wonderful event where we learned, told our ‘story’ and advocated.
The main emphasis of ZONTA Day in Annapolis is to show support of some of the bills we followed. The three bills are as follows (see attachment):
SB209 /HB122 – Protective Orders;
SB688/HB0827 – Juvenile Law, the Child Sex Trafficking Screening and Services Act;
SB 738/HB634 – Labor and Employment.

Domestic Violence Memorial in Annapolis - February 11, 2019
Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland played an integral part in the ceremony by holding hearts representing one of the 46 people that lost their lives due to domestic violence. The keynote address was delivered by First Lady of Maryland - Yumi Hogan; a previous survivor spoke as well as Senator Chris VanHollen. The club members also networked with other leaders of the State of Maryland.
The following members attended: Linda Andrews, Gwen Terry, Stanita Scott, Sandy Campbell, Karen Michelle Fenner, Britney Jones, Denice McCain, and Tammie Edwards.
A free webinar hosted by the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence (MNADV) took place on Friday, March 8, 2019 10AM - 11:30AM.






2019 Annual Fundraiser - The Heart & Soul of Motown Dinner and Dance - February 16, 2019
The Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland partnered with The Yellow Rose Foundation, Inc for its third annual fundraiser at The Hotel at the University of Maryland located at 7777 Baltimore Avenue, College Park, Maryland 20740. Congratulations to our Co-chairs Tracey & Rhonda and the entire fundraising committee for an outstanding event on Saturday, February 16, 2019. We have received many wonderful compliments about The Heart & Soul of Motown. This was due in part to the early planning, dedication and hard work of the committee. Thank you to our Queen of Sponsorship, Maureen, for raising more than eleven thousand dollars in sponsorship.
















Mid-Year Induction Ceremony - January 10, 2019
Linda Andrews, president of the Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland, would like to congratulate the four new members who joined the Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland at the club's January meeting. Our guest speaker, Joanne Gallos - Zonta International District 3 Governor, assisted with the induction ceremony. Linda "thanks" all of the club members who attended the meeting to support the new members, the induction ceremony and those who brought guests.













16 Days of Activism for 2018 (from November 25 to December 10, 2018)
The !6 Days of Activism was a success. There was a "Shoe Display" at Iverson Mall located in Oxen Hill , MD on December 8th and 9th. The shoppers at the mall were very interested in gaining insight and information about what it is and how to stop violence against women and girls. Several women expressed interest in the Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland. Thank you goes to Felicia Sadler, Denise Dobson-McDonald, Roberta McLeod-Reeves, Cleopatra White, K. Michelle Fenner, Sonia Owens and Tameka Taylor-Melvin.



District 3 Governor’s Seminar in Wilmington, DE - October 6 – 7, 2018
The District 3 Governor's Seminar took place the weekend of October 6-7, 2018 in Wilmington, Delaware. The theme for this 2018 Governor's Seminar is "A Bridge to the Future: where Zontians strategize and learn the tools to achieve gender EQUALITY for all women." The Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland received the 2018 Advocacy Achievement Award from Zonta Inernational District 3. This award is for outstanding achievement in promoting the mission and objectives of Zonta International. Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland received this award two consecutive years.

Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland 2018 - 2019 Retreat - September 8, 2018
Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland held their Annual Retreat on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the beautiful home of Zontian Denise McDonald. Our President, Linda Andrews, shared highlights of her attendance at the 2018 Zonta International Conference in Japan and discussed her vision for our club for signature projects, branding, and efforts to end child marriage. Our special guest was our newly-elected governor, Joanne Gallows, who gave an informative and enlightening presentation of ZI’s goals that we will be supporting in the coming year. The various committees had break-out sessions to review their proposed projects and calendars. Our retreat day consisted of learning, reflecting, planning, game-playing, bonding, and eating great food. It was a purposeful and fun-filled time. Many thanks to the Retreat Planning Committee: Denise McDonald, Rhonda Caldwell, Erma Barron, Terrie Musgrove and Chairman – Virginia Moore. You did a wonderful job in organizing and executing this event.






Human Trafficking Symposium - April 21, 2018
Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland's Human Trafficking Symposium took place on Saturday, April 21st at the Laurel
Library. Our president, Linda Andrews, kicked off a very insightful and compelling learning experience. We had dynamic participants and a great audience. We even had surprise visits from Laurel's mayor, Craig Moe, and from Congressman Anthony Brown (after his town hall in a neighboring meeting room). Kudos to our club and especially to Erma Barron (Committee Chair), Nicole Barnes and Felicia Sadler (Co-Chairs) for leading the charge. Yay!! Virginia ...we loved the Panera lunch boxes, and lunchtime went off without a hitch. Thanks to our club members who really worked together to pull off this success story. Our club really shined with how this very important topic was presented to the community, as the audience members made a point of letting us know. Zonta Club Day in Annapolis - March 16, 2018
Zonta Club Day in Annapolis was held at the Miller Senate Office Building in Annapolis, Maryland on March 16, 2018. The event was hosted by the Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland and Senator Joanne C. Benson. The Club was introduced by Senator Benson in the State Senate Chamber and recognized in the State Delegate Chamber. This was an opportunity for club members to advocate for women and girls in Maryland on women related topics. Special thanks goes to Felicia Sadler, Advocacy Chairperson, Gwen Terry, Advocacy Co-chairperson and the many club members for making this an outstanding event.

16 Days of Activism for 2017 (from November 25 to December 7, 2017)
In support of Zonta's "16 Days of Activism Against Domestic Violence", Zonta CLub of Mid-Maryland Advocacy Chair, Felicia Sadler, led an outreach event at three area locations over three days. She was joined with Zontian Stanita Scott. They had a wonderful time passing out literature for "Zonta Says No to Domestic Violence" campaign. This event took place on 12/5 at Forest Village Park Mall (Forestville, MD) , on 12/6 at Wegmen's (Woodmore Town Center) and on 12/7 at Starbucks (area Prince George's County region).

Domestic Violence Awareness Month - October 15, 2017
On October 15, 2017, the Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland fellowshiped at Reid Temple AME Church located at 11400 Glenn Dale Blvd, Glenn Dale, MD 20769 at the 11:15 am service in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Pastor Lee P. Washington acknowledged our presence. The service was wonderful. Zontians in attendance were President Linda Andrews, Sandy Campbell, Tanya Shanklin, Stanita Scott, Eunice Johnson, and Jackie Thomas.


Free the Girls Campaign - starts October 12, 2017 and is ongoing throughout the year
Several members donated new or gently used bras. These donations will support the ‘Free the Girls’ organization in its efforts to stop sex trafficking. Mane Envy Salon & Spa located at 6806 Race track Road, Bowie, MD, is a drop off facility for bra donations throughout the year. 2017 District 3 Conference, September 29 - October 1, 2017

Brothers For A Cause "An Evening for Giving" - May 3, 2017
Thanks to our President Linda Andrews and all the Zonta Mid-Maryland members who attended the Woodmore Country Club last evening for the Brothers For A Cause "An Evening for Giving" fundraiser event sponsored in support of PGCC Cares. It was emceed by Tom Graham, former Pepco President. Cecelia Knox, Co-founder of the PGCC Cares program, gave a very impactful presentation about the needs of students and the struggling situations they face while striving to get an education to elevate themselves out of poverty. We also heard from some of our elected officials: County Exec. Rushern Baker, Congressman Anthony Brown, Maryland State Senator Doug Peters to name a few. Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland is a partner with BFC in this effort to provide assistance to needy students. The event was a great success and our club received a Certificate of Appreciation for our participation.





Zonta International District 3-2017.Area Workshop - April 22, 2017

Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland partnered with LINKS as they attended "A Day at the Maryland General Assembly Advocating for Bills to Improve the Health and Education of Children" at the Lowe House Office Building Rooms #170 & #180 6 Bladen Street, Annapolis, MD.



Zonta Rose Day - March 8, 2017
In honor of International Women's Day each year on 8 March, the Zonta International Foundation celebrates Rose Day. To show your appreciation to the women you admire, who will stand beside you in your endeavors, make a donation to the Rose Fund in their honor.
Your donation to the Rose Fund enables Zonta to continue supporting projects and programs that help women achieve a life free of violence and empower them to overcome gender barriers that hinder their access to health, education, and professional resources.
With each donation to the Zonta Rose Fund, the Foundation will email your honoree a virtual yellow rose and your special message to let them know that they have made a difference in your life. The campaign runs through 3 March. All emails will be sent by 7 March.

Valentine's Day Murder Mystery Dinner & Dance - February 11, 2017
Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland held its first annual fundraiser at the Country Club of Woodmore. We would like to thank all Zonta members for hosting this successful event! Also, like to thank the Committee Chair for Fundraising- Mrs. Stanita Scott, Denise Dobson-McDonald, Erma Barron, Jackie Thomas, Nicole Barnes, Cleopatra White, Felicia Sadler and Linda Andrews for coordinating this fundraiser!! 16 Days of Activism for 2016 (from November 25 to December 10, 2016)
As we approach our 16 Days of Activism which begins on November 25 and runs through December 10, Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland had an exhibit entitled "Zonta Says No to Domestic Violence."

SOLD - October 11, 2016
Our first Zonta Club of Mid-Maryland event took place on October 11, 2016 at the Magic Johnson Theater in Largo, Md and it was a success!! Our community showed up to see the powerful movie "SOLD", preceded by two insightful speakers bringing awareness to us on the fight against human trafficking in our community.
D. Michael Lyles, Esq. is Executive Director of the Prince George's County Human Relations Commission and Chair of the PGC Human Trafficking Task Force. Katie Wicklund is a Legal Advocate at Sexual Assault Legal Institute, Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault. Kudos to our president, Linda Andrews, who sends her thanks to everyone who made our first public event such a success! Special thanks goes to Co-Chairs of the SOLD event: Felicia, Nicole, and Tanya, and their committee members!
